Cheerios is once again bringing books to the breakfast table, by providing six million children’s books free inside Cheerios boxes! Over the past eight years, Cheerios has given away more than 40 million children’s books by distributing them free inside cereal boxes and has donated $3.2 million to First Book, their non-profit partner, which provides books to children from low-income families. The program is part of Cheerios’ ongoing commitment to helping parents provide their children with a healthy, nutritional and educational foundation.
This year’s book offerings from Cheerios – all by Simon & Schuster Children’s Publishing are:
Junkyard Fort, written by Jon Scieszka, and illustrated by David Shannon, Loren Long and Dave Gordon: Join Gabriella, Jack, Melvin, Ted, Lucy and the other Trucktown characters as they make their own fort, using things found in the junkyard. Ages 4-8.
Tea for Ruby, written by The Duchess of York, Sarah Ferguson, and illustrated by Robin Preiss Glasser: Wherever Ruby goes, a bit of disaster seems to follow. But one sunny morning, things change when the postman brings Ruby an amazing invitation: would she like to have tea with the Queen? Ruby needs to polish her manners, and quickly. Ages 4-8.
Sleepyhead, written by Karma Wilson and illustrated by John Segal: In this rhythmic bedtime story, a cat is the parent and a teddy bear is the child who doesn’t want to go to bed. All ready for bed with teeth brushed and story read, Sleepyhead teddy tries anything to prolong his bedtime; books and his quilt provide ample fodder for his imagination. Ages 3-7.
Ballyhoo Bay, written by Judy Sierra and illustrated by Derek Anderson: Mira Bella, an artist who teaches painting and sculpture, loves Ballyhoo Bay and what it offers: sun, sea, sand, and sky. But one gray day a billboard arrives, announcing an impending development that would take all the fun out of the place. Read along to see if Mira Bella and her art can save the day and Ballyhoo Bay! Ages 4–8.
What’s Under the Bed?, written and illustrated by Joe Fenton: Young Fred cannot stop worrying about the scary creature that might be hiding beneath his bed. Finally summoning the courage to peer under his bed, Fred, with his cumbersome glasses, sees that the only thing there is Ted, his friendly Teddy Bear! Ages 3–7.

We don't have a specific ritual – we read anywhere, anytime, anything! When my daughter was one year old, we would always read a book or seven at bedtime. I would sit in the rocking chair in her room with her on my lap. She would choose one stuffed animal to share our time and we would read. So special!

We have a reading time in the morning but my favorite time to snuggle up with a story is bedtime.

I read to my son every night at bedtime. It's my favorite time, and he loves stories so much that he doesn't mind going to bed!

We read bedtime stories before bed and then read books that teach skills like counting, letters and fun books like pop-ups during the day.

My daughter loves to sit in front of the fireplace even if it's not turned on. In her favorite comfy chair. And together we will read together her favorite book before bedtime. She's just learning to read on her own. she loves to sound out the words along with me. It's really cute. Makes this mommy very proud.

We read stories every night before bed. We also read frequently during the day, but before bed is always a given.
We always take time to read through out the day, but each night both of my kids pick 2 stories and we all snuggle up and read and reread! It is one of my favorite times of the day!

Every night my 5 year old and 2 year old climb up in the recliner wih me and we read the day's page from their childrens' devotional Bible, talk about it and say a prayer. Then they get to pick out two or three books for me to read before they head off to bed.
My son also calls my Mom every day and she reads two books to him.

I read my son a story before naptime and bedtime. After teeth are brushed and new diaper and pajamas are on (or in naptime's case just a new diaper) we read one book of his choice then I read him "pat the bunny" which I've been reading him since he was a baby. And now that his baby sister is here I try to have her sitting on my lap for story time, too.

Our storytime ritual starts after pjs are on. my toddler will pick a book (or two) and sit on my lap in the rocking chair.
We have several story time routines. We have 2 different story times during the day. One where my son and I cuddle in the rocking chair and read several books. Then before his nap he has quiet time and he reads (well, "looks" at books, he's only 17 months old) by himself. Then at bedtime he gets one story read. We LOVE books!

Every night at bedtime, after we are in pajamas and have teeth brushed, we sit down and read a book or two. Then, both kids (even my 3 YO) take a book to bed to read.

My daughter gets to pick 5 books – usually I pick them and she gives a yeah or nay to each one. Then we read them, and deal with "just one more!" or "read it again!" before turning out the lights!
